Abstract
Purpose : The purpose of this study is confirming that regeneration capacity of synthetic bone grafted to a skull of osteoporosis- rats caused by ovariectomy differs from that of normal rats. Additionally, this study shows how a general disease like osteoporosis affects to osteointegration or bone regeneration while implanting or bone grafting.

Material and Method : 20 rats were selected for the experiment. 10 rats out of 20 rats were performed ovariectomy and induced osteoporosis. Seven weeks later, every 20 rats were formed the defect of critical size at calvary and were performed bone grafting of MBCPTM synthetic bone. Four weeks later, samples were collected from all 20 rats, observed through an light microscope, and measured the size of newly formed bone in the defected area by Image Pro Plus 5.1(Media Cybernetics, LP, Silver Spring, MD, USA) program. After that, measured data between two groups were statistically compared. SPSS Ver. 12.0(SPSS, Chicago, IL, USA) program was used. The concentration of alkaline phosphatase were measured for confirming the induction of osteoporosis.

Result : Osteoporosis-rats showed higher concentration of alkaline phoshpatase and more regenerated bone size than normal- rats to a statistically meaningful level.

Conclusion : Osteoporosis-rats lacked of bone regeneration compared to normal-rats.
